As per original concept upon which internet was been built, it was thought that the information regarding domains and ip address should be made available to the public in order to allow network engineers to diagnose problems and to allow public at large a way of contacting owner of the resource. As internet grew the number of organizations that provide these resources to the public (i.e. assign domain name and ips) increased dramatically, but there was never established clear guidelines on how the information about these basic internet resources should be made available, nor was there ever established a single location where the information could be accessed and those who need the information often spent hours trying to just find website where they could get information about this particular domain. And we wanted to fill out this void by providing single portal to access this public information and make it easily available even to non-engineers but primarily to help engineers to diagnose the problems and deal with internet security issues. The main part of the website and primary block of our system is very complex recursive whois engine which in itself does not store the information but uses other whois systems and publicly available information sources. We are able to provide answers about domain ownership for more domains then any other system available on the internet - for more information on this, see list of working domains page. Based on received result and search options the engine will do more queries and display the results back using standard whois protocol with engine accessible at completewhois.com, port 43. The website provides access to various options available in our engine and also allows to store and retrieve the results (for use as reference in your email instead of quoting the entire result for example). In addition number of other projects have come up that are now being developed as part of overall completewhois project. This includes research on stolen and hijacked IP blocks to help identify this problem return ip blocks to proper owners - see Hijacked Section of website about this. In active development are the "Bogons IPs List" project which seeks to provide to network engineers list of ip blocks that are probably not supposed to be routable as they were never assigned (ip blocks where whois data is not available for the block) and "Invalid Whois Data" project where we will track those whois records known to have bad data to allow others to filter them (as they create potential security problem). Additional projects for the future which are in early development include Statistical Analysis Project which has goals to provide information on grows of internet in different parts of the world and several other projects are also being worked on or will be done as part of completewhois in the future - please see "Other Projects" webpage about them.. Please note that this is non-profit, public service project sponsored and supported by Elan Networks, and as such the use of this server is intended for internet end-users and not for commercial gain - please see "Policies" page for more information. And if your company wants to use engine on regular basis for commercial purposes, please go to "Commercial Services" page and fill out request for it there (we can also help to integrate use of this server into your product as library for whois access is available). Also, note that Elan Networks and its sister company Elan Consulting (part of Elan Communications) also provide number of other whois, dns and related commercial services that have to do with research on domain ownership assistance, setup of whois services for your company, assistance with dns setup and troubleshooting and network infrastructure in general. For more information please go to commercial services page or send email to sales@completewhois.com If you need to contact us or want to report a bug with our whois engine, please use this form, for all other comments and feedback regarding this website, features you like or do not like, your suggestions - please use "Feedback" page or send an email to comments@completewhois.com
